What is Ultrasound Imaging?
What is Ultrasound Imaging?
Ultrasound technology uses high frequency sound waves. The waves bounce off tissue and return to the ultrasound machine at different frequencies, depending on the density of the tissue. Our ultrasound equipment is a highly specialized computer that translates the returning sound waves into images for viewing on its computer monitor. We use a GE Voluson Expert and is an FDA approved ultrasound machine. Only the very best for you!
What is the difference in 2D, 3D, 4D and HD?
What is the difference in 2D, 3D, 4D and HD?
2D, 3D, 4D and HD Live are trademarked terminology used in the industry to distinguish the difference types of pictures and videos that can be provided. 2D ultrasounds are the traditional black & white ultrasounds you have probably seen before. The pictures show the skeletal (outline) of the baby. You also get to see the baby moving in 2D! This is still the best technology for gathering measurements of the baby and ensuring baby is developing as expected.

HD is the newest and greatest technology in the advances of ultrasound! HD uses a virtual light source to render more realistic views of the baby. It is a virtual digital flashlight adding shadows and light reflection to create a deeper and more refined 3D image with exceptional anatomical realism. *Light is not actually used* These advances also give us the leading edge with standard 3D/4D imaging quality.3D ultrasound shows the tissue of the baby, which is more like real pictures. We can see the roundness of the baby's face, the shape of the nose and the contours of the lips. The color is computer enhances to make the pictures more appealing and not the actual color of baby. 3D ultrasound shows the tissue of the baby, which is more like real pictures. 4D ultrasound shows the tissue of the baby - as the baby is moving! This provides moving video of your baby in action. The 4D ultrasound video of your baby is similar to the 3D images - but with movement.
When is the best time to have an ultrasound?
When is the best time to have an ultrasound?
We can perform an ultrasound at any time during the pregnancy, but the best 3D/4D ultrasound results are generally between 24-36 weeks. Earlier in pregnancy baby is still small and skeletal. Very late in the pregnancy, the baby gets crowded and can be difficult to view the face and obtain the images you expect. You must be at least 14 weeks for our gender determination guarantee. Do I need to have a full bladder or drink a lot of water?
The more hydrated your body is, the more transparent the amniotic fluid is and the clearer the pictures you will have. Being well hydrated can greatly improve the clarity of the 3D/4D/HD ultrasound pictures. We recommend you begin preparing at least 72 hours before your appointment.
We recommend full bladder if you are less than 18 weeks. We also recommend a light snack or juice before your session to help baby wake up for the show.
